From the moment they were born male, Timon and Pumbaa were considered “waste” and deemed unworthy of a life by the dairy industry.
Timon and Pumbaa were taken from their mothers shortly after birth – a beginning no living being deserves. They were rescued from the brutal realities of a dairy farm. In an industry that often sees calves as nothing more than byproducts of their mothers’ milk, the unwanted ones are penned aside, waiting for the “bobby truck” to take them to the slaughterhouse, or they are killed on the farm. Over 400,000 calves born on dairy farms each year face this heartbreaking end.
Male calves born on dairy farms are often considered ‘waste” or “surplus’ because they provide little financial benefit to the dairy farmer, as they can’t be reared and used as future milkers. While some female calves stay on the farm for future milking, there is frequently a surplus of females born. These calves face the same fate as the males. 💔
Timon and Pumbaa were among the lucky ones to be rescued, but sadly, this isn’t the reality for hundreds of thousands of calves born on dairy farms each year. Thanks to the generosity of our community and donors, two more lives have been saved.
Now healthy and feeling cared for, Timon and Pumbaa are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.
